Transition Rebate/Electricity Tariff Adjustment Scheme

Back in 2021, when some of Queensland’s older business tariffs were phased out, the Queensland Government introduced the Electricity Tariff Adjustment Scheme (ETAS) to help ease the shift to standard, cost reflective tariffs. The goal was to support businesses that would otherwise see a noticeable jump in their electricity costs during the transition.

We took care of the assessments for you and contacted every customer who was eligible at the time.If you received a letter from us in 2021, it meant you met the government’s eligibility criteria.

What is ETAS?

ETAS is a long-term Queensland Government rebate that helps eligible businesses manage cost increases caused by moving from obsolete tariffs to standard, cost-reflective tariffs.

Some customers continue to receive support for up to nine years.

Who was eligible

ETAS is closed to new entrants, Eligibility was set by the Queensland Government. You were eligible if:

  • You were an Ergon Energy Retail business customer on 1 January 2021
  • Your NMI was on one of these obsolete tariffs: 20 (large), 21, 22 (large), 37, 62, 65 or 66
  • Your assessed annual bill increase was more than 5 percent and $500 (ex GST, based on the same usage)
  • You weren’t a state or federal government body
  • You didn’t move to 62A, 65A, 66A or a non-standard ICC network tariff.

All eligibility assessments and rebate calculations were completed in 2021.

How ETAS works today

Eligible customers continue receiving the rebate automatically.

The amount reduces over time and stops once:

  • Your annual ETAS amount falls below $500, or
  • You’re no longer the account holder for that NMI, or
  • You leave Ergon Energy Retail, or
  • You move to 62A, 65A, 66A or a non standard ICC network tariff.

Your ETAS schedule was set in 2021 and doesn’t change if your usage changes.

Other support

If you’re eligible for the Drought Relief from Electricity Charges Scheme (DRECS) as well as ETAS, you continue to receive both.

DRECS is applied first. If your ETAS amount is higher than your DRECS amount for that billing period, the difference is paid through ETAS.
