Replacing your meter
You might need a new smart meter if you’re setting up a new electricity connection or making changes to your existing one.
A smart meter helps support new tariffs, equipment changes and smarter energy options, now and into the future.
When will my smart meter be installed?
To give you more certainty, there are guidelines for how long smart meter installations usually take.
The exact timing can vary depending on the work required at your place. If things are a bit more complex, we’ll work with you to agree on a suitable installation date.
Smart meter installation timeframes
| Installation type | What this means for you | Timeframe |
|---|---|---|
| New connection | You’re setting up a brand-new network electricity connection and need a smart meter installed. | Your smart meter is usually installed within 6 business days after we’re advised the network connection is complete, unless another date is agreed with you. |
| Meter upgrade | You already have a working meter, but it needs to be replaced to support a tariff change or new electrical equipment. | Your smart meter is usually installed within 15 business days after we receive your meter change request, unless another date is agreed with you. If any connection changes are needed, they’re completed within the same timeframe, unless a different date is agreed with you and the electricity distributor. |
These installation guidelines apply to customers who use up to 100 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per year. This covers most households and small to medium businesses across regional Queensland.
