What's the Clean Energy program?

When you subscribe to Clean Energy, you pay an extra amount on your electricity bill.

That extra helps us buy renewable energy certificates from accredited renewable energy generators across Queensland. In short, you’re backing more clean energy being added to the grid.

Clean Energy is fully accredited by GreenPower, the government program that sets accreditation and reporting standards for renewable energy products in Australia.

Where does Clean Energy come from?

Your Clean Energy is sourced from renewable generators across regional Queensland, including:

  • Wind farms at Mount Emerald
  • Biomass energy from Queensland sugar mills.

These sources produce zero net greenhouse gas emissions, helping reduce the overall environmental impact of electricity use.

How much does Clean Energy cost?

Residential customers

You can choose a quarterly subscription that suits your household and budget.

Subscriptions start from $10 per quarter, which covers around 10% of the average Queensland home’s electricity use.

Your subscription is prorated based on the number of days on your bill, so the amount may vary slightly month to month.

If you’re a business customer, Clean Energy works a little differently. Here’s what you need to know.

Instead of a fixed dollar amount, businesses choose the percentage of electricity they want to source as Clean Energy:

  • 2.5%
  • 5%
  • 10%
  • 25%
  • 50%
  • 100%

Clean Energy costs 6.22 1 cents per kilowatt hour on top of your existing business tariff.
