Managing accounts for a deceased estate

If you’ve lost a loved one, we understand it’s a difficult time and we’re here to help.

When someone who holds an Ergon Energy Retail account passes away, please get in touch and we'll step you through your options as quickly and easily as possible.

Let us know whether you’d like to keep using power at the property or not and we’ll take care of the rest.

Simply call our regional Queensland team on 13 10 46.

Placing the account into the "Estate of"

Once you let us know about the passing, we place the account into the “Estate of”. To do that, we’ll ask for a few details so we can get everything right.

We’ll need:

  • Your full name
  • Your contact number
  • Your relationship with the deceased
  • Full name of the deceased
  • Address of the deceased
  • Date of birth of the deceased
  • Date of death
  • Contact information for the executor, administrator, acting firm/solicitor if known.

Keeping the power on

If you’re a joint account holder and want to keep using power at the property, we can update the account so it’s in your name only.

Otherwise, we can open a new account in your name and finalise the previous account.

Accounts that stay open as the “Estate of” need two things:

  • Death Certificate
  • A letter from the Executor/Administrator confirming they act for the estate of the deceased.

Switching the power off

If no one needs power at the property anymore, we can close the account and send a final bill.
