    Network tariffs & pricing

    Electricity network tariff structures and the rules for assigning customers to tariffs are approved by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) every five years. The next five-year period is from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2030. Charges and rates associated with these tariffs are approved though our Annual Pricing Proposal.

    When asked about power supply, many customers say their most important considerations are reliability, safety and, of course, affordability. Knowing what energy is costing your household or your business is crucial when it comes to budgeting and making decisions.

    The costs associated with our distribution network make up approximately 31% of a typical residential electricity bill, and is based on the AER’s 2025-26 Default market offer.

    We bill your electricity retailer, who then bills you according to the pricing of the retail tariff you are on. Most residential and small business customers in regional Queensland take advantage of retail electricity prices set by the Queensland Competition Authority. These prices include Queensland Government subsidies, ensuring the price of electricity for these customers are on par with other parts of the state.

    What are network tariffs & pricing?

    Network tariffs relate to what we charge your electricity retailer for you to use our electricity distribution network. Your electricity retailer then bundles these charges with other elements to be included on your power bill.

    As mentioned above, the AER sets and approves our tariff structures every five years. As part of the process, we submit a Tariff Structure Statement (TSS) (PDF 1.7 mb) which the AER approves or modifies after a process of consultation. The approved TSS applies for five years.

    Our tariffs apply to both Standard Control Services (SCS) and Alternative Control Services (ACS) charges:

    • Standard Control Services (SCS) are at the core of our services, focusing on the supply of electricity to all customers. Service examples include items such as construction, maintenance and repair of the network.
    • Alternative Control Services (ACS) are distribution services that are customer-specific or customer-requested services and are similar to a “user-pays” system. Examples include network connection services and public lighting services.

    Network tariff trials

    Each year, we run network tariff trials to test new electricity pricing approaches. These tariff trials help shape how we might charge for electricity in the future.

    We are seeking applications from eligible customers to participate in our trials. Invited customers can refer to the Storage Tariff Trial Participation Application Form (PDF 134.5 kb) to apply.

    Applications close by 31 May 2025.

    2024-2025 Network tariff trials

    In 2024-2025 we launched new Storage Tariff Trials (such as batteries) to keep up with the changes in the energy system.

    2025-2026 Network tariff trials

    We will continue testing Storage Tariffs in 2025-2026. These tariffs will be available to the following customers:

    • Standard Asset Customers (low voltage) such as small businesses like your local corner shop or a car washing business
    • Connection Asset Customers (high voltage) such as large supermarkets or a hospital.
