Tropical Cyclone Narelle - 19 March

We have made final preparations to respond to Tropical Cyclone Narelle and stand ready to support any communities impacted by severe weather.

  • 200 Ergon Energy crew members from depots across Far North Queensland are on standby and ready to respond when weather conditions ease and they can safely get to damage sites.
  • Tropical cyclones can cause major damage to the electricity network and severe weather can delay our crews in communities that are only accessible by aircraft, so we’re urging people in the warning zone to be prepared for lengthy power outages.
  • While there are no impacts on the power network yet, we can start to see the effects of severe weather well before the cyclone makes landfall, as destructive winds blow tree branches and other debris into powerlines.
  • Fallen powerlines can kill – people need to stay well away from them, warn others, and report any electrical hazards to emergency services on 000 or call Ergon on 13 16 70.
  • Our restoration plans will be based on network damage assessments after the cyclone and we will keep communities updated.
