Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji - 13 January

Following the impact of Cyclone Koji over the weekend, significant progress has been made in restoring power across affected regions.

Since the cyclone made landfall, our crews have successfully restored electricity to approximately 23,000 homes and businesses. As of 8pm on 13 January, only about 15 premises remain without power, and crews will continue work tomorrow to restore these final, most challenging connections

This achievement reflects not only the dedication and resilience of our field teams working in difficult conditions but also the patience and support of North Queensland communities. We sincerely thank residents for standing with us throughout this recovery effort.

Our teams in Clermont have also faced extraordinary challenges, managing a 100-year flood event while ensuring electrical safety and restoring power to Capella and Clermont within hours of the flood peak. Additionally, our Normanton depot successfully resolved a complex fault today, restoring supply to Karumba despite widespread flooding.

Important Information for Customers

After major storms or flooding, secondary power issues can occur. Damaged trees may fall and cause new outages, and brief interruptions may happen as we return the network to its normal configuration.

  • Check Outage Status: Use our Outage Finder as your first step.
  • Report Issues: If your property is without power and not listed online, or if your neighbours have power while you do not, please call 13 22 96. This may indicate an individual premises fault that we are unaware of.
  • Damaged Properties: Some homes cannot be reconnected until they are made safe by a licensed electrical contractor. Once this is complete, we will reconnect as soon as possible. Read more.

We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we complete the final stages of restoration. Stay safe, and thank you for weathering Cyclone Koji with us.
