Basic offer for Dynamic Connections

From mid-2026* customers installing solar and batteries up to 30 kVA will have a new connection option.

To provide customers with greater flexibility for import and export, as well as better value from your solar and battery investment, we are seeking to introduce a Dynamic Model Standing Offer (MSO), which will allow dynamic connections to proceed as a basic connection service.

Dynamic connections have been available for the past three years as a negotiated offer. From mid-2026* the Dynamic MSO will become part of our suite of basic connection offers.

* Subject to approval by the Australian Energy Regulator.

What you need to know about the new Basic Dynamic MSO

Information for CustomersInformation for Installers
  • No application fee
  • Minimal or no network upgrades are required to enable the connection
  • Premises must be directly connected to the electricity network
  • System must have an inverter capacity of less than or equal to:
    • Single-phase 10 kVA PV and 10 kVA energy storage system (ESS)
    • Two-phase 5 kVA PV and 5 kVA ESS per phase
    • Three-phase 10 kVA per phase
  • System must be capable of operating dynamically or has a compliant Home Energy Management System
  • Export up to 10 kW per phase (variable) in normal operating conditions
  • Guaranteed minimum export in normal operating conditions: 1.5 kW
  • Larger systems will be allowed on single-phase connections
  • Import limits for batteries and EV chargers
  • Dynamic MSO connections will not be available for SWER lines or isolated networks.

Subject to compliance with the connection standard requirements, customers can access:

  • Dynamic default export limit: 1.5 kW
  • Dynamic maximum export limit: up to 10 kW per phase
  • Single-phase systems up to 20 kVA total (10 kVA solar + 10 kVA battery)
  • Two-phase 5 kVA PV and 5 kVA ESS per phase
  • Three-phase 10 kVA per phase
  • NB Hybrid inverter rule: combined solar + battery inverter capacity must not exceed 10 kVA
  • Import limits prescribed by connection standards
  • Default import limit 1.5 kW; and
  • Maximum import limit no more than:
    • Single-phase 18 kW
    • Two-phase and three-phase 10 kW per phase
  • Eligible customers can receive an offer within 10 business days or sooner should you choose to expedite your application.

What is a Dynamic Connection?

A dynamic connection uses real-time signals to manage energy exports and imports (where applicable).

Instead of a fixed limit, the inverter receives dynamic operating envelope signals (DOE) every 5 minutes via Wi-Fi or ethernet. This means:

  • Export more when the network has capacity
  • Automatically reduce exports during congestion.

What are the benefits of a Dynamic Connection?

  • When registered and connected to the dynamic communication system, customers are able to export more solar energy when the network has capacity
  • Customers can install larger systems on single-phase without upgrading to three-phase
  • Faster approvals and no application fee
  • Helps keep electricity prices lower by avoiding costly network upgrades.

How to apply

  • Installers (on behalf of customers) apply via the Electrical Partners Portal
  • Eligible customers receive an offer within 10 business days or sooner should you choose to expedite your application
  • Customer or installer must register the dynamic system via our Self Service Portal to unlock full benefits.
