Removal of connection
Removing an electricity network connection (or abolishing supply) usually occurs when a building is planned for demolition, removal or relocation. We will remove the electricity service line and other electrical assets from the premises.
Once the connection has been removed, its National Metering Identifier (NMI) will be cancelled.
Requesting a supply abolishment
If you don't have an electricity retailer, only the property owner or their authorised agent can request the removal of an electricity network connection. They must complete a Request for the Abolishment of Supply and Removal of Ergon Energy Asset form (PDF 32.6 kb) and fax it to us on (07) 4922 7562.
You can also ask us for help with removing your connection by calling 13 74 66 between 7.00am - 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
If you have a retailer, you must contact them and advise that you wish to abolish supply at the premises. We will action the service order request received from your retailer.
Please note: We will confirm to you in writing and by phone when work to remove the connection has been completed.
Timeframes for removing a connection
Once we have received a service order request from your electricity retailer, we will remove the connection within the timeframes outlined in the Electricity Distribution Network Code.
For more information on approximate timeframes, call us on 13 74 66 between 7.00am - 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Important: Building demolition or removal cannot, under any circumstances, start until we have confirmed in writing that the work to remove the connection has been completed.
You may be at risk of electrocution if building demolition or removal is started without our written confirmation that the network connection has been removed.
If you have submitted a request to abolish supply directly through us (when you have no electricity retailer) and would like to check on the progress, call us on 13 74 66 between 7.00am - 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
To reconnect your electricity network supply after abolishment, you will need to request a new connection. This will involve a new NMI being allocated.
