Removal of connection
Abolishing supply (or removing an electricity connection) usually occurs when a building is planned for removal, relocation or demolition. A supply abolishment request results in Ergon Energy removing the electricity service line and other assets from the premises.
Once the connection has been removed, the National Metering Identifier (NMI) associated with the connection will be cancelled.
If you don't have a retailer, please call us on 13 74 66 between 7.00am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, for assistance in abolishing your connection.
Requesting a supply abolishment
If you don't have a retailer, only the property owner or their authorised agent can request a supply abolishment.
They must complete a Request for the Abolishment of Supply and Removal of Ergon Energy Asset form (PDF 32.6 kb) and fax it to Ergon Energy on (07) 4922 7562. You can also request a copy of this form by calling us on 13 74 66 between 7.00am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
If you have a retailer, you must contact them and advise them that you wish to abolish supply at the premises. Ergon Energy will comply with the service order request received from your retailer.
Ergon Energy will confirm to you in writing and by phone when work to remove the connection has been completed.
Timeframes for removing a connection
Once we have received a valid service order request, we will comply with this request within the timeframes outlined in the Electricity Distribution Network Code.
For more information on approximate timeframes, call us on 13 74 66 between 7.00am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Please Note: Building demolition or removal cannot, under any circumstances, commence until Ergon Energy has issued written confirmation that the work to remove the connection has been completed.
You may be at risk of electrocution if building demolition or removal is undertaken without written confirmation from Ergon Energy that the work to remove the connection has been completed.
If you have submitted a request to abolish supply directly through Ergon Energy when you have no retailer, and would like to check on the progress of your request, call us on 13 74 66 between 7.00am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
To reconnect your electricity supply after abolishment, you will need to request a new connection. This will involve a new NMI being allocated.
