I am delighted with the outstanding response and the shortlisted seven projects now being considered.

This is a really exciting time for Ergon Energy as we look for new opportunities to meet our commitments under the Federal Government’s Renewable Energy Target.

The quality and size of the shortlisted projects will allow Ergon Energy to secure a long-term supply of Large-scale Generation Certificates by establishing Power Purchasing Agreements with the best of these.

Ergon Energy is already the largest purchaser of renewable energy generated in Queensland including partnerships with sugar mills through power purchase agreements.

The electricity network in regional Queensland is strong platform on which large scale renewables can be developed for a cleaner energy future.

Among the shortlisted projects are the types of submissions we expected from wind farms and solar farms, and we also have an innovative biomass project which generates power by using chicken litter as a fuel.

Ergon Energy will now carry out a thorough assessment of these submissions. We will be working with each of the companies to progress to the next stage of entering into commercial PPAs late this year or early next year.

Ernst and Young were engaged to assist with the second stage of awarding tenders to ensure the technical and commercial requirements could be met.

Ergon Energy is looking to partner with new renewable energy projects with companies in the renewable energy space who have demonstrated their projects will contribute significantly to Ergon Energy Retail meeting its Renewable Energy requirements.

The shortlisted projects are:

  • Mount Emerald Wind Farm Pty Ltd (50% Ratch, 50% Port Bajool) – Mt Emerald Wind Farm
  • Ratch-Australia Corporation Ltd – Collinsville Solar Farm
  • Forsayth Wind Farm Pty Ltd (Infigen) – Forsayth Wind Farm
  • Cleveland Power Pty Ltd (Darwalla Group) – Mount Cotton Biomass Project (Chicken Litter)
  • FRV Services Aust Pty Ltd – Clare Solar Farm
  • FRV Services Aust Pty Ltd - Lilyvale Solar Farm
  • Lyon Infrastructure Investments Pty Ltd – Cooktown Solar

Companies that have not been successful may have an opportunity through subsequent Ergon Energy initiatives or other renewable programs being run by the Queensland Government and ARENA.
