Ergon Energy Retail is expanding its commitment to sourcing renewable energy for its customers and is calling for detailed submissions from companies that can help to meet this goal.

We’re seeking expressions of interest for the supply of 150 megawatts of electricity from renewable sources – that’s equivalent to the power requirements of a city the size of Mackay in north Queensland.

Our retail business is looking to develop new renewable energy projects with companies that have a solid reputation in the renewable energy space and can demonstrate their projects will contribute significantly to helping us meet our Renewable Energy requirements.

Renewable energy sources including roof top solar already contribute about 10% of the electricity into our network across regional Queensland.

We expect that growth to continue and in fact increase but we need more renewable energy.

We’ve received strong interest from renewable energy project developers in regional Queensland in the past and now we’re asking developers to put forward these projects for consideration.

Ergon Energy is already the largest purchaser of renewable energy generated in Queensland through partnerships with Queensland sugar mills, solar farms, wind generators and hydro-electric generation projects.

And we’ve been working with communities throughout regional Queensland to investigate the development of renewable energy sources to help reduce greenhouse gas emission for many years.

We also have services which are helping business customers save on their energy use and a trial of hybrid energy services to reduce customers’ energy costs.

Companies interested in submitting an Expression of Interest for Renewable Energy Project Developments will be able to find more information at the tender section of our website.

Successful projects are expected to be announced later this year.
