Tornado-like winds have ripped the roofs of homes and blown them into power lines, leaving about 4000 Ergon Energy customers on Bundaberg southside without power this afternoon.
The freak incident, which reports suggest may have been a waterspout, also propelled trampolines into the power lines, primarily in the area between Walkervale State School and Boreham Park.
Ergon has already received more than a dozen reports of fallen power lines in that area.
Crews are responding despite the ongoing downpour, which has caused localised flooding in numerous low-lying parts of the city.
Crews expect they will be able to restore power to some customers tonight, but the full restoration is not expected before tomorrow afternoon.
Additional crews will depart from the Gladstone area from first light tomorrow to assist local crews respond to the damage to the network in the Avenell Heights area.
