Power upgrade under way for Dundathu

Published: 30 Aug 2015 1:07pm

Ergon Energy is completing a major upgrade of the power supply to Dundathu, St Helens, Prawle and Tandora today.

About 70 personnel from the Maryborough and Hervey Bay depots, contractors and traffic controllers are working on site along Saltwater Creek Road, along with 12 bucket trucks and three borers.

They will upgrade four poles, change 10 cross-arms and replace 2.7km of high-voltage conductor to improve the safety, reliability and voltage stability of the supply to about 200 customers, as well as cater for future growth in that area.

The influx of crews enables the work to be completed safely during a single, six-hour power supply interruption, rather than requiring multiple outages to complete the work in stages.

The work was scheduled for a Sunday to minimise the inconvenience to schools and businesses, as well as to traffic on the main road between Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

A generator was supplied to a church for its regular Sunday services.

Ergon Energy thanks customers and motorists for their patience and understanding as crews work as quickly and safely as possible to complete the work and reinstate the power supply by 2.30pm.
