Stay safe this storm season

Ergon Energy will be providing vital information about storm season preparation and cyclone safety at Townsville City Council’s Cyclone Sunday event at Strand Park on 29 October from 4pm - 7pm.
Area Manager Scott Fraley said it was important that people in communities where cyclones are likely to occur in the coming months are properly prepared and understand the challenges of getting power on after a major storm.
“Safety is our top priority when our crews are out there working to get power back on after a major storm or cyclone,” Mr Fraley said.
“We will work as quickly as we can, but the safety of the public and Ergon Energy employees comes first because we are dealing with electricity in a very uncertain environment.”
“Last year’s Cyclone Sunday event gave us an opportunity to speak directly with people about how they can prepare for cyclones, but also what they should do to stay safe during and after a storm rips through their community.”
Mr Fraley said people attending Cyclone Sunday at Strand park would have the opportunity to speak with Ergon Energy representatives about a range of safety checks and procedures they should undertake before and after a power outage caused by an extreme weather event.
“We will be handing out information and giving a demonstration on generator safety and we’ll also have people there to answer questions from our customers,” he said.
