Workers rally behind local charities in need

Local charities are in urgent need of essential items for their clients and Ergon Energy Retail employees have banded together to support them.
This week, Ergon Energy Retail employees will be challenging each other to donate quality essential items to online charity GIVIT. Then through GIVIT, the donations will go directly to local charities requesting those items on behalf of their clients.
Ergon Energy Retail General Manager Customer Experience and Marketing Brett Milne said the Retail team was buzzing with excitement with the week-long challenge starting today.
"Ergon Energy Retail is a proud regional Queensland company and our employees are excited to be providing their support to increase donations and awareness within the local community.
"Teams will be competing against each other to donate the most quality items to GIVIT which will be used to support vulnerable members of the local community.
"We are hoping to see a variety of items commonly needed by local charities donated including white goods, kitchen appliances, beds and mattresses, furniture items and other basic necessities," Mr Milne said.
GIVIT Founder and CEO, Juliette Wright, said GIVIT aims to ensure every charity has what it needs through the simple act of giving.
"GIVIT has facilitated almost 200,000 donations to assist those in need and supports more than 1,000 of Australia's most trusted charities," Ms Wright said.
"We know there are families in urgent need and are incredibly grateful to have Ergon Energy Retail staff throwing their support behind them.
"One simple donated item has the ability to pull someone else out of poverty. A pair of unwanted work boots could help a father secure work to support his family, a reliable washing machine would allow a single mother the time to apply for work instead of washing clothes by hand and a bed could stop a child sleeping on the floor."
GIVIT's innovative virtual warehouse removes the need for charities to sort, store or dispose of unwanted items. The item remains with the donor until the charity requires it.
