Powerful crews keeping the lights this Christmas

Christmas is a time of relaxing with friends and family, but there’s a band of staff at Ergon Energy who’ll be working hard to keep the lights on Christmas Day.
Hundreds of staff from Ergon will forgo Christmas Day with their loved ones instead will be working or on-call to ensure the Christmas tree lights continue to twinkle.
Acting Chief Executive Officer for Ergon Peter Price said the team will be there to keep the grid running and respond rapidly if an issue occurs.
“Electricity is something we rely on around the clock every day of the year, so in good weather and bad, our crews will be out there Christmas Day to keep the lights on,” Mr Price said.
“Our crews are hoping for great weather on December 25th but, as always, they’re prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws their way.
“And while no power network in the world is completely resistant to the type of severe weather we get in Queensland, people celebrating Christmas Day at home can rest assured that if it turns nasty our crews will do everything to respond as quickly and safely as possible to restore supply.”
Mr Price also thanked the Queensland community for their patience during what has already been an active storm season around the State.
“We are only officially a few weeks into summer and already our crews have been kept busy as a result of numerous severe storm cells and responding to bushfires that have affected the network around the State,” he said.
“However, while we have come to expect extreme weather in this State, we are also a very resilient community and this has meant Queenslanders have remained very patient knowing our crews are doing everything possible – often in horrendous conditions – to restore electricity to homes and businesses.
“And for that, on behalf of all our crews, I’d like to thank the Queensland community for their amazing support throughout 2018 and wish them the safest of Christmases.”
