Get ready for summer

In the lead-up to cyclone season, Ergon Energy is urging customers who rely on advanced medical equipment to have a plan in place for unexpected power outages.

This includes ensuring their electricity retailer has up-to-date customer contact details.

Customer Operations Manager Cloe Kernick said at this time of year everyone should be prepared for the damage and disruptions storms can cause, particularly anyone whose health is reliant on a power supply.

“While we have a very robust electricity network, severe weather is notorious for damaging homes and infrastructure, including Ergon’s poles and wires.

“Severe tropical cyclones and flooding have the potential to take out community infrastructure and interrupt the electricity supply for many days.

“That’s why it is ideal for anyone in need of powered health equipment to have a comprehensive plan in place for power interruptions.

“This might include having a back-up generator at their premises, arranging alternative accommodation where the electricity supply hasn’t been impacted or seeking medical assistance,” Ms Kernick said.

Ms Kernick said customers should register medical requirements with their electricity retailer or call Ergon Energy Network on 13 74 66 to ensure they can be contacted before any planned power interruptions.
