Ergon Energy is wishing Executive General Manager Roslyn Baker the best of luck ahead of tomorrow night’s 21st Telstra Queensland Business Women’s Awards.
Ms Baker has been named as a Queensland Finalist in the Government and Academia category.
The Awards celebrate women who have the courage to start their own business and/or lead their industries, but also offer them a platform to encourage others to challenge the status quo and think differently.
“I’m honoured to be chosen as a finalist for the Telstra Queensland Business Women’s Awards,” Ms Baker said.
“I am equally proud that members of my senior management team believed strongly enough in my leadership to have nominated me.”
“Our business has more than 720,000 customers across more than one million square kilometres from coastal and rural population centres to the remote communities of outback Queensland and the Torres Strait – it’s a huge area and a huge responsibility.”
“I hope that my being named among the 28 Queensland finalists will encourage other women in regional Queensland, especially in Government organisations, to empower their employees – to help them recognise they have a voice within the business and if they speak up and take action they can influence outcomes and make a difference.”
Ergon Energy Chief Executive Ian McLeod said Ms Baker was a deserving finalist for the awards.
“Roslyn has been working hard over a number of years to put Ergon Energy Retail in a strong position to respond in a changing environment for our industry,” Mr McLeod said.
“Being a finalist in the Telstra Queensland Business Woman Awards is recognition of that work and I wish her all the best for tomorrow night.”
Telstra Chief Operations Officer and Telstra Business Women’s Awards Ambassador, Kate McKenzie, said Queensland business women were excelling in a broad range of sectors.
“The 2015 Queensland finalists join a long list of successful business women, whose unique and innovative approaches to leadership at state and local community levels, and in some cases, globally, continue to impress and inspire the Awards judges,” Ms McKenzie said.
The 28 finalists join an Alumni that includes winners Anne Cross, CEO of UnitingCare Queensland, Rosemary Vilgan, retiring Chief Executive of QSuper, Cathie Reid, Managing Partner of Epic Pharmacy Group, Ingeus Managing Director Therese Rein, and Becker Helicopters CEO, Captain Jan Becker.
Winners of the 2015 Telstra Queensland Business Women’s Awards will be announced on Tuesday 29 September in Brisbane. The Queensland winners proceed to the national finals in Melbourne on Wednesday 18 November.
