Energy Queensland Chief Executive Officer David Smales has applauded the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s commitment to regional Queensland at the 20th Anniversary celebrations of the Townsville base.

Mr Smales said the Service provided vital medical services that otherwise wouldn’t be available to regional and remote Queensland.

“The Royal Flying Doctor Service is more than a service provider to those communities – it is a part of them,” Mr Smales said.

“Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) CEO Nino Di Marco and his team here in Townsville can be very proud of that and I’m sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of north Queenslanders who will be forever grateful the RFDS has had a base here in Townsville for the past 20 years.”

“I’ve heard so many great things about the Service and the fantastic partnership Energy Queensland’s Retail business has had with it for the past 16 years and I am sure that will continue for many more years.”

“Our Retail business has a proud history of being a regional Queensland company - most of our people live and work in regional Queensland – and I am sure that’s why we have worked so well with the Royal Flying Doctor Service over such a long time.”

“It’s quite humbling really – our Retail customers and employees have donated more than $11million through payments on their energy bills.”

Mr Smales said that support had helped the Royal Flying Doctor Service purchase a new aircraft, update aeromedical equipment in their existing aircraft and continue to provide clinics and services in some of the State’s most remote areas.
