COOEE answers calls for help

Published: 15 Sep 2015 2:30pm

Ergon Energy Retail customers have made it possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) to answer 439 calls for help from regional and remote Queenslanders since last November.

RFDS launched the B200 King Air “COOEE” last September to mark the $8million donated by Ergon Energy Retail customers since the partnership began in 2000.

Shirley Ashford from Maryborough won a state wide competition last year to name the aircraft. Her suggestion of COOEE captured the attention of judges as it symbolised the universally identified shout to attract attention or a call for help which is synonymous with the bush and the invaluable service the RFDS provides.

Ergon Energy Retail Executive General Manager Roslyn Baker said customers and employees could be proud of the part they had played in helping their fellow Queenslanders.

“Ergon Energy and its customers have been supporting the RFDS in Queensland for 15 years knowing their contributions help to save lives right across regional and remote areas of the state,” Ms Baker said.

“In the past 12 months COOEE has flown more than 344,500kms from its base in Mount Isa to provide transport and lifesaving medical attention for 439 Queenslanders who have called for help from some of the State’s most remote areas.”

“It is humbling to know our customers and employees have helped make that possible, especially when you consider there have been 11 babies under three months old who have needed to be transferred to a hospital for specialist care.”

Thanks to this valued partnership with Ergon Energy Retail, Cooee has become a vital part of our aviation fleet allowing our dedicated medical officers, flight nurses and pilots to effectively deliver our iconic life saving aeromedical services across rural and remote Queensland”, said RFDS CEO Nino Di Marco.

Ergon Energy Retail’s goal to raise $10million for the RFDS in Queensland by the end of this year is close with more than $9.75million collected through voluntary donations since the partnership began in 2000.

Customers are able to donate $2 or $5 on their quarterly electricity bills or make a one-off RFDS donation through the RFDS website Ergon Energy Retail customers can make a donation to the RFDS by visiting: www.ergon.com.au/retail/residential/account-options/donate-to-royal-flying-doctor-service
