Reunion to keep electrical contacts sparking

Far northern sparkies and long term electricity industry workers are out to disprove the saying that 'old electricians never die, they just lose contact'.

A reunion is being held on July 25th for anyone who has ever worked for one of Far North Queensland's electricity authorities or for current industry staff who have notched up 25 years or more service.

The reunion will be held at the Edge Hill Tavern in Cairns on Saturday July 25th, kicking off at 11.30am. Refreshments supplied by the ECU will be supplied from 12.30pm.

Reunion organiser Neville Burton said retirees and existing longer-term employees from Ergon Energy and predecessor organisations including Barron Falls Electricity Authority, Northern Electricity Authority, Cairns Regional Electricity Board and Far North Queensland Electricity Board were warmly welcome to join in.

"It's a great opportunity for industry long-termers to get together and talk about times past and present," Mr Burton said.

"An Ergon Energy representative will also be in attendance to bring everyone up to date on recent industry developments," he said.

Mr Burton said anyone interested in attending should contact him on 4091 8506 to register their interest and confirm attendance for catering purposes.
