Forced power interruption to Gulf communities this Sunday

Published: 16 Jun 2017 10:27am

Ergon Energy will interrupt power to Gulf communities for three hours this Sunday morning to undertake emergency repairs to equipment that supports the main power line supplying the region.

An Ergon Energy spokesman said power would be interrupted from 6.30am to approximately 9.30 am to customers at Karumba, Normanton, Georgetown, Croydon, Mt Surprise, Forsyth and Einasleigh.

“We understand the importance of power to our customers and have purposely chosen a time that will have the least impact.

“Our crews will work quickly to repair malfunctioning equipment at the main high voltage substation that supplies power to the line and these remote communities,“ he said.

The transmission line supplying these communities runs for about 700 kms and supplies approximately 2000 customers in the Gulf region.

“Unfortunately we cannot re-supply these communities from other parts of our network. However our customers can be sure crews will work as quickly as possible to repair equipment and get the line back in service and power back to them.”
