Cyclone & Christmas prep for Gulf says Ergon

Published: 21 Dec 2015 3:40pm

People in Far North and Gulf of Carpentaria communities in the forecast path of a low pressure weather system should be equally prepared for cyclone impacts as they are for Christmas according to Ergon Energy.

The advice comes as Ergon prepares to put crews on standby in depots west of Cairns – including at outlying posts in Normanton and Georgetown.

Emergency generation is also being mobilised to northwest Queensland in preparation for the possibility of cyclonic impact. Mobile generation units were being moved to at least four depot locations in the region as a precaution.

“Ergon is making sure it has contingencies in place in case this weather system turns nasty – and our customers across the region should do the same,” said Ergon Customer Delivery Manager Charlie Casa.

“Don’t let Christmas preparations be an excuse for complacency – think forward and make sure you have emergency kits ready and know what to do if power goes out for an extended period,” Mr Casa said.
