Rockhampton restoration estimates available

Published: 3 Dec 2015 11:19pm

Ergon Energy crews have restored power tonight to about 85 per cent of the Rockhampton customers whose supply was interrupted when a wild storm lashed the city this afternoon.

About 8800 customers were affected as the storm impacted on 14 separate sections of the network, resulting in damage to poles and transformers, as well as fallen power lines and blown fuses.

Ergon received more than 60 reports of fallen power lines and other life-threatening incidents with calls continuing into the night.

Tonight’s restoration efforts concentrated on responding to those calls and isolating damaged parts of the network so power could be restored to customers on other sections of the feeder lines that had not sustained damage.

Despite the inroads made tonight, a significant amount of work remains to be completed tomorrow to reinstate power to all customers where it is safe to do so.

Additional crews have already arrived from Gladstone and will be joined tomorrow by crews from Mackay, Bundaberg and Biloela, as well as contractors, to support the local crews in working systematically through the required repair work.

Ergon has estimated restoration times for tomorrow for those customers who will remain with power overnight and these are available from the Outage Finder on the website at https://www.ergon.com.au/network/outages-and-disruptions/power-interruptions/outage-finder?search
