The rapidly developing new Ergon Energy building in Glenmore Road Rockhampton has provided a boost to the local construction industry and is starting to make a real impression on the City skyline.
General Manager Shared Services Bev Rose said the $38 million project has created over 300 construction jobs and involved the construction of a new centralised depot and office complex, fleet and off street parking and modifications to the existing logistics building.
Under a strategy of consolidating multiple sites and buildings in Rockhampton, the redevelopment of the existing Glenmore Road site will see Ergon's operational and support functions located together under one roof and enable the company to operate more effectively and efficiently.
Some 450 Ergon staff are expected to be housed in the new centralised facility which will realise other benefits such as improved management in disaster responses such as the recent Cyclone Marcia restoration, better fleet management and utilisation, more efficient logistics and material handling, and improved safety traffic management on site including access to Glenmore Road.
"This project demonstates Ergon Energy's commitment to its strategy to increase operational efficiencies and invest prudently in order to reduce upward pressure on electricity prices to our customers in the long term" Ms Rose said.
The project is also providing a much needed stimulus to the local economy, particularly after the devastating effects of Cyclone Marcia earlier in the year.
Contractor, Lendlease is targeting December this year for completion of the new building.
Key construction milestones as at 30 June 2015:

- wall and services rough Ground Floor, Level 1 and Level 2 approximately 50% complete
