Ergon repairs crews have had to bring in heavy earth moving machinery to gain access to a damaged power pole that was brought down by bush fire activity in the Raspberry Creek Rd area near Kunawarara to the north of Rockhampton.

Corporate Communications Manager Bob Pleash said around 730 customers in the Kunawarara, Marlborough, Ogmore, St Lawrence, Clairview and surrounding areas lost power this morning just after 10.30 am.

Ergon immediately dispatched a helicopter and several crews in response to the incident.

Due to the rugged terrain where the damaged pole is and the amount of burnt vegetation access has become very difficult and a large excavator has been brought in to clear a trail to the site.

The pole will have to be replaced and power is expected to be fully restored to affected customers later tonight.

It is believed fires have been burning in the area for several days.

Ergon thanks customers for their patience and understanding while repairs are completed.
