Life Support Program

If you or someone living at your premises has a medical condition that is supported by electrical equipment, you may be eligible for Ergon Energy's Life Support Program. This is a free service which provides valuable information on supply interruptions to those in genuine need.

Eligible medical equipment or conditions

Types of medical equipment or conditions which could be eligible for the Life Support Program include:

  • Home dialysis machines
  • Respirators
  • Oxygen machines
  • Chronic positive airways pressure respirators
  • Kangaroo pumps
  • Crigler-Najjar syndrome photo-therapy equipment
  • People with a high risk of respiratory or cardiovascular emergencies.

You may be eligible for the program if you use other equipment or have a different medical condition to those mentioned here. If you're not sure that your medical condition would qualify, please ask your doctor or health care provider.

What does registration provide?

Once you are registered with the Program you will have access to:

  • A special number you can call for information about supply interruptions
  • Our advisory service for unplanned interruptions - where possible we will estimate and tell you when your power will come back on
  • Our advisory service for planned interruptions - where possible we will tell you when to expect your power to go out or come back on.

Unexpected power cuts

While we will do everything in our power to provide you with a reliable electricity supply, sometimes unexpected technical issues or situations arise. For example, severe storms, strong winds, lightning, wildlife strikes, traffic accidents and even vandalism can disrupt the power supply. That's why we can't guarantee an uninterrupted power supply 100% of the time.

How to apply

Registering for the Ergon Energy Life Support Program is easy. Download a copy of the Life Support Program brochure and Application Form and:

  1. Determine if you are eligible for the Life Support Program.

  2. Fill in the Ergon Energy Account Holder details on the application form and sign it or have a nominated person (Third Party Representative) sign it for you. The Third Party Representative is a person who completes the application for the Account Holder.

  3. Have a Medical Practitioner (usually your doctor) fill in Section A (this is the preferred option) OR fill in Section B and sign it in front of and have it witnessed by a Justice of the Peace, Chiropractor, Dentist, Doctor, Nurse, Optometrist, Physiotherapist, Vet, Solicitor, or Pharmacist.

  4. Post the completed form using this reply paid address

If you have contacted us about this Program and been told that you are temporarily registered pending the return of the application form, you must return the completed and signed application form to us within 28 days. If you need more time or have any questions about your application, please call us on 13 10 46.

You are not registered with the Program until we receive a completed application form and your application has been approved by Ergon Energy.
