Solar Photovoltaic Inverter Systems and other Embedded Generators
At Ergon Energy, we support the installation of Inverter Energy Systems (known as IES) powered by renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic (PV) cells or a small wind or water turbine. These devices have the ability to operate in parallel with the local grid connected electrical energy supply and can provide electricity to your home or business, but also to other customers connected to the main electricity grid to your local area.
These systems operate in parallel with the grid supply at your premises. Sources of renewable energy can include photovoltaic cells or micro-turbines but to be eligible for the Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme, (see below) you need a PV system.
Your Renewable Energy System installer will be the primary contact to help you decide what system is best for you,
and to assist you in claiming any rebates that may apply to your installation. We strongly recommend that you use an
installer who is accredited by the Clean Energy Council (CEC).
There are a number of responsibilities that come with the ownership of an electrical energy system that has the ability to feed power back into the shared electricity grid. These responsibilities are stated in the Ergon Energy network connection agreement.
Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme
The Solar Bonus Scheme (also known as the Feed in Tariff - FIT) is a scheme allowing excess energy produced by a customers' photovoltaic (PV) system to be fed back into the grid and credited to the customer.
More information regarding the Solar Bonus Scheme, where a fixed amount is paid per kilowatt-hour of energy fed into the distribution grid, can be found at Office of Clean Energy.
