Windorah Power StationErgon Energy owns and operates 33 isolated power stations. Click here to view them on a map. These power stations provide electricity to communities in Western Queensland, Gulf of Carpentaria, Cape York, various Torres Strait Islands, as well as Palm and Mornington Islands, which are isolated and too remote for connection to the state electricity grid.

Ergon Energy's Network Generation section is responsible for:

  • Planning for isolated power stations
  • Developing and maintaining the operational, design and construction standards for isolated power stations
  • Developing maintenance plans, policies and work instructions for isolated power stations
Some basic facts regarding Ergon Energy power stations are:
Number 33 existing power stations
Staff All stations are remotely monitored and have a part-time Power Station Attendant who does basic maintenance at the power stations.
Size

The power stations range from 165kW (kilowatts) to 9.55MW (megawatts) installed capacity.

Thursday Island is the largest power station at 9.55MW with the next four largest sites 1-2MW installed capacity and the rest in the order of 300-1000kW.

Type All power stations use automotive diesel to drive the generators except for:
  • Thursday Island - diesel, wind generation
  • Birdsville - diesel, LPG, Organic Rankine Cycle (geothermal)
  • Energy Generated

    The 33 power stations produce approximately 101,000MWh (megawatts hours) of energy per annum.
