Environmental Management

Ergon Energy is committed to environmental responsibility in serving its customers and the community. As operator of Australia’s largest and most diverse electricity distribution network infrastructure, and as one of Australia's leading retailers and wholesalers of new sources of renewable energy, we aim to continually enhance our environmental credentials in energy supply and solutions.

In our operations and our dealings with others, Ergon Energy will adopt reasonable and practical measures to establish and maintain responsible standards, objectives and targets for managing the environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, of our products, services and processes.

We continue to work on our environmental controls striving towards world’s ‘best practice’, particularly through the establishment of international ISO 14001 environmental certification. These standards are gradually being implemented throughout the Group.

During 1997 and 1998, the regional electricity corporations signed agreements with the Greenhouse Challenge. As evidence of the ongoing commitment to the Greenhouse Challenge, the regional corporations that were merged into Ergon Energy produced comprehensive Progress Reports which met the reporting requirements of the Greenhouse Challenge. Ergon Energy is committed to the continued reporting of its greenhouse performance through Greenhouse Challenge Progress Reports and the public reporting of the results via public statements.
