Saving energy

HOT WATER SAVERS

We all know that the drought is impacting on many areas of Queensland. But by being more energy efficient with our hot water, we can also help reduce our energy consumption - how much we use.

By taking shorter showers, every minute less will save on your hot water heating costs as well as save water.

We can also help by installing a low flow showerhead or a flow control valve to reduce the amount of hot water used, without reducing pressure. An inefficient showerhead can use more than 20 litres every minute compared to a AAA rated head that uses a maximum of 9 litres a minute.

If you would like to understand how your water heater works, ask mum or dad if you can have a look at the instruction manual. Heat exchange water heaters must be topped up regularly via the top up valve, and checking that the overflow is working properly will also help to save energy.

If one of your hot water taps is dripping, you should tell mum or dad so it can be repaired immediately.
