What can you do?

Use your energy sense

It's the simple things we can all do to reduce our energy usage that make good energy sense.

Whether you're lighting up a room or cooling it down, you can save electricity by following our Energy Sense Hints. Our Energy Sense Guide is full of practical tips, tools and advice to help you switch on your energy sense at home. We also have a range of workplace suggestions for saving energy.

Other websites with information on energy efficiency include the Australian Government's Living Greener and the Queensland Government's ClimateSmart Living. You can also find information on energy-efficient products and compare running costs on the Energy Rating website.

Just a few small changes which will reduce your electricity consumption can make a big difference by also saving you money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the bargain.

Get the Climate Smart Home Service

Designed to help householders to cut electricity and water usage, the Queensland Government’s ClimateSmart Home Service includes a visit from a licensed electrician to conduct an energy assessment of your home and install a range of energy and water saving devices.

Book online at ClimateSmart Home Service or call 133 600.

Switch to solar hot water

Next time you upgrade your hot water system, think about switching to solar – it could really pay off.

Installing a solar hot water system could help you save between 60% and 80% on your hot water costs, and with generous incentives from the Queensland Government and Australian Government, the cost of a new solar system may not be much more than an electric one.

Savings are based on replacing a 250L electric hot water system with a 250L roof-mounted solar hot water system. This may vary depending on a number of factors including the direction your roof faces, if there are trees shading the house, and the intensity and amount of sunlight in your area etc.

Install a solar power system

You may choose to invest in a solar power system at home or in your business to help save on your electricity bills and help the environment.

Before committing to installing a solar system, you or your supplier must get the go-ahead from Ergon Energy to connect your system to the Ergon Energy network. Our renewable energy system connection section can step you through the process of applying for approval and getting your system installed. It also includes information on a number of government incentives that may be available to assist you with the cost of installing a solar power system at your place.
