With a total asset base of $7.7 billion, and more than 4,000 employees, Ergon Energy Corporation Limited is a major Queensland company.

We service more than 650,000 residential and business customers across regional Queensland, from the rapidly burgeoning coastal and rural population centres, to the remote communities of outback Queensland and the Torres Strait.

Our franchise service area extends across 97% of Queensland - around 1.7 million square kilometres. We operate across a truly diverse, inspiring landscape, from the harshest, most demanding terrains to the most sensitive.

Ergon Energy's electricity network consists of around 150,000 kilometres of powerlines and one million power poles, along with associated infrastructure such as major substations and power transformers. We also own and operate 33 stand-alone power stations that provide supply to isolated communities across Queensland not connected to the main electricity grid.

Ergon Energy is a major contributor to the development of skills across regional Queensland - with a workforce of about 4,000 employees. We also take our social responsibility seriously by partnering with the communities we serve.

We are one of Australia's largest purchasers of renewable energy and are actively involved in alternative energy generation solutions.

Ergon Energy operates in a dynamic industry. We were formed in 1999, by the State Government, from the then six regional Queensland electricity distributors and their subsidiary retailer. Since this time the industry has undergone a continuing evolution. The latest change was announced in March 2007 when the Queensland Government sold our contestable retailing operations to private enterprise.
