Thursday Island is part of the Torres Strait group of islands located
between the top of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland and Papua New Guinea.
The population of Thursday Island is approximately 4000.
Ten years ago, two Vestas wind turbines, each with a capacity of
225kW, were installed on Thursday Island. At the time of installation
the joint capacity of 450kW of the two turbines was considered medium
to large as the development of wind turbines was not as advanced
as it is today. Even though these turbine now seem small they still
contribute around 10% of the power needs on Thursday Island.
